Singer-songwriter-guitarists Richard Barone and James Mastro first worked together in the influential Hoboken-based band The Bongos in the '80s, and put out an album as a duo, "Nuts and Bolts," in 1983. In support of NJArts.net, they'll join forces for an extremely rare duo set, performing on their own and also with backing by the inventive Montclair-based band, Elk City.
Barone's most recent album is "Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village in the 1960s," a tribute to the classic music of the neighborhood where he now lives. He will be performing at SummerStage in Central Park NYC on August 12th. Mastro has been the guitarist for Ian Hunter for the past 18 years, along with many other artists. He recently became a member of Hunter's classic-rock group Mott the Hoople for a series of reunion shows. He is currently finishing a solo album to be released early 2019.
Sharing the bill will be Glenn Mercer, the incendiary guitarist who co-fronts another legendary New Jersey alternative rock band, The Feelies. He'll perform with his own Glenn Mercer Band.
Elk City, led by singer Renee LoBue and drummer-producer Ray Ketchem, will open the show with a set of their own.
