7th Annual Concert for Haiti
Featuring Aztec Two Step, Jen Chapin, Paul Beaubrun and Zing Experience, Richard "Earthman" Laurent and Soleil Laurent, Big Mamou, Melissa Walker with Jazz House Kids and others!
The Seventh Annual Concert for Haiti on January 30th at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation is a celebration of Haitian music and an effort to raise funds for four non-profits who support work in Haiti: WhyHunger, Haitian Education Leadership Program, Lamp for Haiti and Edeyo Foundation.
While raising funds to support education, nutrition and health care in Haiti, we also bring together community members and artists who care about issues and people beyond their borders.
This year we feature Haiti’s electrifying Richard “Earthman” Laurent, singing with his daughter, Soleil Laurent; the unique Haitian roots-rock band Zing Experience; the soulfully poetic Jen Chapin. (She is also an activist with WhyHunger, co-founded by her late father Harry Chapin, one of the organization's supported by the concert); and Aztec Two Step, the iconic folk/rock duo, featuring Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman. After taking their name from a poem by beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and with four plus decades as staples of progressive FM radio, major record deals and non-stop touring, Rex and Neal continue to impress audiences with intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar and inspiring two-part harmonies
We will feature wonderful musicians from the Montclair community. Indeed, Big Mamou brings its hot mix of Cajun, country, and Zydeco fresh from the swamps of Jersey. And we will also be entertained by the acapella voices of Montclair High School's Passing Notes, and a group featuring Cantor Meredith Greenberg, Leora Perlman, Bob Mellman and Peri Smilow from Temple Ner Tamid, accompanied by Tom Parente. We look forward, once again, to hear the soulful voice of Melissa Walker, accompanied by the remarkably swinging Jazz House Kids.
The Concert for Haiti committee, in partnership with Outpost in the Burbs, invites you to an evening of community service, connection and fabulous music.
Doors open at 7pm. The concert begins at 7:30. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. If you would like to serve as a concert sponsor, please contact Cindy Stagoff at [email protected]
