ABOUT ABOUT

Joseph Arthur returns to the Outpost for this special solo acoustic show.

Joseph Arthur's unique voice and songs have won over the attention and collaboration of a who's who of rock 'n' roll, including Lou Reed, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, T Bone Burnett, Dhani Harrison, REM, Coldplay, Justin Timberlake, and Peter Gabriel, who "discovered" Arthur and signed him to his label, Real World.

The Akron, Ohio-born Joseph Arthur was a jazz fusion bassist when he first discovered the Velvet Underground in his late teens ("It was the perfect timing," he recalls, since he had only begun singing himself), and forged an impressive solo career as a visionary, indie-rock singer-songwriter that began with 1997's "Big City Secrets," as the first American signed to Peter Gabriel's Real World label, later joining Gabriel's WOMAD tour in Europe. Two years later, the EP "Vacancy," with an album cover he created and designed himself - as he did with most of his releases - earned a 2000 Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package.

On his own, Joseph Arthur has recorded over a dozen albums, including such critically acclaimed works as "Redemption City," "The Ballad of Boogie Christ," and "Lou: The Songs of Lou Reed," a tribute to the late rock singer-songwriter who pretty much invented indie-rock decades before there was such a thing, and with whom Arthur was close friends.

Joseph's latest release, "Days of Surrender" was released this past Spring.  “This is a living, breathing artifact of my own little journey through the bizarre contours of rock ‘n’ roll,” says Joseph Arthur, as he combines his success in the art world with his latest album, Days of Surrender.
